The Solar panels were installed and have been producing energy since June 22, 2026. In just thirteen days, they produced $817 in savings.
Current Progress on Funding
Currently, the following grants have been recieved to help fund the solar project at Sparta Free Library:
- Solar Moonshot: $20,000
- Winding Rivers Library System: $27,580.24
- Eligible for Focus on Energy and Federal Direct Pay IRA worth approximately $44,500
Anonymous Donor Kicks Off Catch the Sun Solar Fund
A longtime Sparta Free Library patron has generously donated $6,000 toward the cost of installing the solar panels. This inspired a donation drive to cover the total cost of the project by December 31st, 2026 – making the project completely tax dollar free. We hope this energizes other individuals and businesses to share in creating a more sustainable, environmentally conscious space the community can enjoy for generations to come.
How to Become a Solar Sponsor
Your donation empowers the ongoing Sparta Free Library mission & vision to connect people, engage minds, and enrich lives. With five different donor levels, everyone has the chance to donate and be recognized for helping the library continue its sustainability goals. Donate in memory of a loved one, in honor of a group, family or someone special, or represent your business in this well-deserving community initiative.
Checks can be made out to The Friends of the Sparta Free Library, noting Catch the Sun Fund and mailed to Sparta Free Library c/o Director Michelle Tryggestad. Be sure to include your contact information to ensure recognition is given correctly.
