Deke Slayton Memorial Space and Bicycle Museum

Why bikes and Deke Slayton? Sparta Wisconsin is the Bicycling Capital of America with the first Rails to Trails Program in the country in which old railroad tracks are converted into bike trails. Deke Slayton is a Sparta native, and one of America’s first astronauts. The community wanted to celebrate both of these traditions, and the Deke Slayton Memorial Space and Bicycle Museum was born!

Little Free Libraries

The Sparta Free Library and the Sparta Parks & Recreation Department have collaborated to bring Little Free Libraries to five Sparta city parks. Feel free to take a book/leave a book at the Little Free Libraries in Amundson Park, Tom Gomez Park, Blyton Veteran’s Park, Mueller Square, and Ben Bikin’ Park! [Please note: Little Free Libraries are not staffed and cannot serve as drop-off points for materials checked out from the Sparta Free Library.]
