Look for Book Picks from the Teen Advisory Board throughout this week.

Movie:  Gravity is an Academy Award winning movie starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts struggling to survive after their shuttle is destroyed (PG-13, 91 minutes).  There will be two free showings on Monday, April 14:  10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Please bring your own comfy chair if you’d like, otherwise the library will provide one.  Snacks are allowed!

Technology Tutoring available by appointmentTuesday, April 15 @ 11:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. – Sessions include 30 minutes of one-on-one tutoring for the topic of your choice.  Topics may include the new catalog, Overdrive, e-readers or tablets, smart phones, Microsoft Word or Excel, etc.  Call Adult Services Librarian, Leah Gentry @ 608-269-2010 ext 6, to schedule your appointment.

Teen Book vs. Movie Discussion: James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl on Tuesday, April 15, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.  Open to those in 6th – 12th grades.

Lego Club, Wednesday, April 16, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Open to children Pre-K through Fifth Grade.  Parents or caregivers must be present with any child under age 7.  Love Legos?  Come and build away.   Legos provided by Friends of the Sparta Free Library.  To register, please call the Children’s Room at 608-269-2010 ext 2.

Wisconsin’s Poet Laureate, Max Garland, visits Sparta.  You have two opportunities to hear Wisconsin’s own poet laureate, Max Garland, read his poems on Thursday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.  Both programs will be held at the Sparta/Barney Family Community Center, Senior Nutrition Site and are sponsored by the Friends of the Sparta Free Library.  Max Poster

Kids Age 4 – 11, for the entire month of April – Celebrate your favorite book by drawing a picture about it.  Turn your picture in to a librarian and win a certificate for a FREE single scoop of Culver’s Frozen Custard.  Check with your librarian for more details.

Sunday, March 30, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Senior Nutrition Site @ The Sparta Barney Community Center, 1000 E. Montgomery St., Sparta, Wisconsin

Mark Moran, former editor of Antiques and Collectibles Books for Krause Publications, and author/co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, will be visiting Sparta for an antique and collectibles appraisal event!  An active appraiser of antiques and fine art for more than 20 years, Moran will appraise one item free for the first 40 registered guests.  Contact Leah @ Sparta Free Library to register, 608-269-2010 ext 6.  Additional guests are welcome to listen and observe!

Thank you for your patience as we eagerly anticipated the new online catalog!  Encore is now “live”, and library staff are ready to assist with all of your questions. 

Library staff will be busy catching up with data entering the paper records we’ve been creating for the last month for your HOLDs and other details.  It will take us a day or two to get this all caught up.

Encore, the new WRLSWEB online catalog has encountered some problems.  As soon as it is available, a link will be put up on this web site. 

The library is open today, and you may check out.  We have a backup system in place for that. 

We appreciate your patience as our vendor resolves the issues.
